The Devil is a Lie
Look, sometimes I form this ideology in my head that the devil as an entity does not exist. It was just a creature imagined by our colonial masters as a spirit that possesses you when you commit an atrocity.
‘Devil’ always takes the blame when someone commits an evil act in full consciousness then decides to end his/her vicious malefic ways after conviction. Familiarity with the phrase ‘it’s the devil’s handwork’ gives a wide understanding of what I’m trying to say.
Devil as an entity does not exist and my belief is humans ability to do the worst of all things are in fact a carefully made decision and if it’s true that the devil exists: we are it. A devil is a person and you can choose to be or not be that person.
I’m inspired to write the article for two reasons. The first is an event that happened 12,053 days ago: The murder of Thomas Sankara.
Sankara was Burkina Faso’s first president who’s policies were oriented towards fighting corruption, promoting reforestation, promoting women’s empowerment, averting famine and making education and health national priorities. He even withdrew Burkina Faso from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
In summary, his intentions were clear. He was a good man and was described on his Wikipedia page as a Marxist–Leninist and pan-Africanist, he was viewed by supporters as a charismatic and iconic figure of revolution and is sometimes referred to as “Africa’s Che Guevara, but he had opposition who didn’t like him or his ideas and On 15 October 1987 was killed by an armed group alongside 12 other officials in a coup d’état organized by his former colleague, Blaise Compaoré.
When Compaoré took over, he overturned nearly all of Sankara’s policies, reversed the nationalizations, rejoined the IMF and World Bank and ultimately rejected most of Sankara’s legacy. Compaoré remained in power for 27 years until he was overthrown by protests in 2014.
Blaise Compaoré was not possessed by any devil, he is the devil and the atrocities he committed was a fully formed decision and he was convicted when Burkina Faso’s men and women said its enough.
The second reason for this article is the #EndSARS protest in Nigeria. The youths have said it’s enough and can no longer tolerate the killings of fellow youths by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) and the Nigerian Police at large. We, youths are on the streets protesting and demanding that ;
1.EndSARS
2.Immediate release of all arrested protesters.
3.Justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families.
4. Setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct(within 10days).
5.In line with the new police act, psychological evaluation and retraining of all disbanding SARS officers before they can be redeployed.
6. Increase Police salary so they are adequately compensated for protecting the lives and property of citizens.
As at when this article was published, the only reaction from the federal government was a press release that SARS has been dissolved but these men are still on the streets harassing young men and women, a sponsored thugs attack by the government on protesters and gave SARS a new name; SWAT. See warey day disguise. Also, the president is yet to give an executive order to dissolve SARS.
Police brutality on citizens is a serious offence against humanity and our leaders are aware but instead of reforming the police, they encourage rape, abuse, robbery, killing, kidnapping by these men on citizens
The government is led by the devil, Muhammadu Buhari is the devil. He’s vice is the devil. The Inspector-General of Police is the devil. SARS men are the devil. If you have a hand in police brutality directly or indirectly, you are the devil.
To all those who came out to protest, online or offline, our voice must be heard, you are well appreciated and future generations would be glad we spoke up. Enough is enough.
